IDEAKSI Community-led Innovation Partnership was selected to showcase community-based innovations for disaster management at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction event in Bali on 23-28 May 2022.

Through support and collaboration with different actors including academics, private sectors, civil society organizations, as well as the government, the community’s capacity is strengthened to develop solutions or initiatives to respond to the crisis they face in their community. Not only that it’s community-led, but to ensure that the developed innovations can be accessed by people most-at-risk such as older people, people with disabilities,  and in general, communities living in disaster-prone areas.

The exhibition will display the journeys of local innovators in developing inclusive innovation in disaster risk management. This will include what approach they applied when initially starting the process, what strategy they used to ensure that innovations they developed are based on the needs and built on feedback from the community including those most-at-risk, and what support they utilized in the process of developing innovation.

This information will be beneficial for any other organizations that seek to develop innovation in disaster risk management while improving local actors skills and capacity in leadership. The exhibition is also to show an innovation model that can be applied according to local context by donors, facilitating NGOs, and even the private sector in which the community can participate actively in planning, proposal development, to monitor the process and build a sense of ownership.
